Well, spring is upon us and work seems to be picking up. It’s been a long winter and I’m ready to start the push into summer and ultimately fall. Not too many months to go before the panic of an Oregon contractor breathing down your neck to get wood in the ground becomes a daily occurrence. The addition of some new Trimble gear to the lineup this year should be a game changer though. The Trimble VX and Trimble S8 robotic total stations, paired with the Trimble TSC3 data collectors are truly an amazing pair. Pacific survey & construction supply found me some great deals on some like new equipment. My fleet of finicky, aging 5600’s had gotten the best of me a couple times last year, it only takes one incident behind a paver at PDX to make you beg for something different, so it was finally time to say goodbye to technology born in the 20th century. The new instruments are truly amazing…Quick, light and extremely accurate these robotic total stations are at the top of the heap for us production surveyors. On board cameras in the instrument, internet access for easy data transfer to crews in the field, Trimble Vision, on board scanning technology and much more. I managed to pick up some bargains in the winter and I’m hoping my investment pays off this summer with more productive time and less repairs. This year seems to be the year for new equipment, new survey equipment & new software and hardware for the office. I think all of my auction, ebay and craigslist bargains that I picked up in 2008 are finally showing their age. The constant march of technology is guaranteed income for the manufacturers….we’ll see if it is for me too.
Here’s to another great year of surveying in Oregon!!
